Home EV charger installation in Canberra

Most home charging problems are about where you park. A double garage next to the switchboard is easy. A carport at the back of the block, a townhouse with a shared supply or an apartment basement needs more planning. We work out the practical route first and then install the charger.

Common reasons people call

  • Garage, carport or driveway a long way from the board
  • Townhouse or unit where the supply or parking is shared
  • Older switchboard with no spare room
  • Existing solar and you'd like the car to use it

What the job covers

  • Planning the cable route from the switchboard to the parking spot
  • Wall- or post-mounted chargers for garages, carports and driveways
  • Weather-rated installation for outdoor parking
  • Setting charging schedules or solar-aware mode where supported

Houses

In a freestanding house the main questions are how far the charger is from the switchboard and whether the board has room. Cables can usually run through the roof space, under the house or along the wall in conduit.

Townhouses and apartments

Where parking or supply is shared, you may need body corporate or strata approval before any work starts. The charger will usually need to connect to your own supply and meter. We can look at the site and tell you what's practical so you can take a clear proposal to the owners corporation.

What affects the price

Every job is quoted on what's actually involved. The main things that change it:

  • Cable distance from switchboard to parking
  • Access through roof space, walls or underground
  • Switchboard room and supply capacity
  • Indoor garage or outdoor install

What to expect

  1. 1Send a quote request with your suburb, the car and charger (if you have one), and a photo of your switchboard and where you park.
  2. 2Mick checks your switchboard, supply and cable route — from photos where that's enough, or on a site visit.
  3. 3You get a written quote that spells out the circuit, protection and any switchboard work needed.
  4. 4The charger is installed on its own circuit, tested, set up and you're shown how it works.

Questions about this job

Can a charger be installed outside?
Yes. Many chargers are rated for outdoor use, and we install them with weather-suitable fittings and cable protection.
I live in a unit. Can I still get a charger?
Often, yes, but you'll usually need strata or body corporate approval and a practical way to connect to your own supply. We can look at the site with you.
